The Maldives Police Service has issued a warning that action will be taken against individuals who park vehicles on sidewalks designated for pedestrians or in a manner that obstructs public transportation on the streets of Hulhumale'.
The police have noted a significant increase in vehicles being parked on sidewalks and in other areas of Hulhumale' that obstruct public transportation and pedestrian movement.
In this regard, the police also stated that parking vehicles in such a manner is a contributing factor to dangerous accidents.
Consequently, the police have urged the public to refrain from parking in such areas to ensure public safety and maintain order on the streets. The authorities further stated that action will be taken against vehicles found parked in violation of these regulations.
The police issued this warning following a surge in public complaints regarding improper vehicle parking across various areas of Hulhumale' recently.
The issue of vehicle parking on pedestrian pavements has escalated in the Hiyaa Flats area, one of the most densely populated neighborhoods. Despite periodic towing operations conducted by the police, a permanent solution to these ongoing traffic violations remains elusive.
