A man previously arrested for desecrating Al-Furqan Mosque taken into custody once again for the same offense

The court has remanded him in custody for 15 days following the incident, noting that the suspect has a prior criminal record for similar acts of vandalism and desecration of mosques.

A man previously arrested for defecating inside the Furqan Mosque has been taken into custody once again for committing the same act at the same location.
In a message shared with the media, the police stated that Naushad Moosa (G. Malehiya 2, 13-02, Male') has been arrested on charges of desecrating Masjid al-Furqan. He is accused of entering the mosque at approximately 04:14 AM on September 10, 2026, and committing an act that violates public decency and the sanctity of the mosque by urinating or defecating inside the premises.
Police stated that when the individual was produced before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered them to be remanded in custody for 15 days. Authorities further confirmed that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Naushad, who was previously arrested in November 2024 in connection with the same case, was remanded in custody for 15 days at that time as well. However, he was subsequently released.
A video circulating on social media at the time showed the extent of the damage caused to the mosque located on Ameenee Magu in Malé. The footage revealed that copies of the Holy Quran at Masjid al-Furqan had been strewn about, while the mosque’s electrical boards and plumbing fixtures were also vandalized.
