A man arrested for breaking into a house in R. Angolhitheemu, where he allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman and threatened to kill her, has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police have informed the media that a 44-year-old Maldivian man has been taken into custody in connection with this case.
Police received the report of this incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday night, September 27, 2026. Authorities stated that the victim, a 72-year-old Maldivian woman, was sexually assaulted after a perpetrator broke into a residence in Angolhitheemu. Police further confirmed that in addition to the sexual assault, the victim was also threatened with death.
A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the case at approximately 9:57 p.m. on Saturday, September 28. Police confirmed that the arrest was executed under a court order. Authorities further stated that the suspect was presented before the court to determine their remand status, resulting in a 15-day detention order.
