Despite the government's numerous pledges to HDh. Kurinbi, many of the island's vital development projects have come to a standstill, stated Hussain Ziyad, the Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, MP Ziyad stated that the ongoing work on the youth center in Kurinbi is currently limited to the assembly of the steel structure, following a standardized design being implemented across the Maldives.
However, he noted that the upgrading of the island's health center has come to a complete standstill. He added that while pillars were erected just ahead of the elections, no further progress has been made since then.
Furthermore, while discussing the island's sporting facilities, MP Ziyad noted that the existing futsal pitch has fallen into disrepair. He highlighted that neither the planned turf replacement nor the construction of a new pitch has shown any progress. He further stated that although the perimeter wall and fencing for the main football stadium have been completed, the construction of the sub-base remains unfinished.
Furthermore, expressing concern over the status of the water and sewerage system in Kurinbi, MP Ziyad noted that although 90 percent of the work has been completed, the project has remained unfinished for the past three years, preventing the commencement of services.
The most disheartening issue for Kurinbi is that the water and sewerage project remains stalled despite being 90 percent complete. Just the other day, the Minister stated in Parliament that because the project was so close to completion, they were ensuring the contractors finished the job. Yet, over the past three years, Kurinbi has remained one of the islands in the constituency with the poorest access to water. To this day, the facilities stand finished, with faucets and all necessary fixtures already installed. Despite this, there has been absolutely no further progress on the project to bring it into operation.Hussain Ziyad
MP Ziyad stated that he does not expect significant progress for the development of his island or the constituency under the current administration.
