The Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Md. Golam Sarwar, has paid a farewell call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The meeting took place on Monday morning at the President's Office.
According to the President's Office, the President expressed his gratitude during the meeting for the Secretary General's sincere service and cooperation throughout his tenure. He also highlighted the significant role SAARC plays on both regional and international stages. Furthermore, the President's Office stated that the President reaffirmed the Maldivian government's commitment to strengthening SAARC and commended the Secretary General for his effective leadership.

The Maldives is among the founding member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The organization was officially established on December 8, 1985, following the signing of the SAARC Charter in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
