First Couple arrives in AA. Ukulhas

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in AA. Ukulhas today.

The President's Office has stated that during this visit, the President will attend the closing ceremony of the Small Island Developing States Supreme Audit Institutions (SIDS-SAI) Symposium, as well as the opening ceremony of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Global Summit.

The President's Office has also confirmed that the First Couple is accompanied on this trip by a delegation of cabinet ministers, along with senior officials from government offices and state-owned enterprises.

During his visit to Ukulhas, the President is scheduled to meet with the members of the Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). Furthermore, the President is set to attend several ceremonies related to government projects aimed at the island's development and the overall progress and welfare of its residents.

President Muizzu visited Ukulhas on August 20 last year.

During the visit, a meeting was held with the island council, the Women's Development Committee (WDC), and heads of various local institutions. Council members highlighted several key concerns, including the housing crisis and the lack of adequate space at the council administrative office. Furthermore, they shared the challenges faced by students due to the absence of a library and a science laboratory at the school. The members also emphasized the space constraints at the local health center, requesting the expedited completion of the ongoing expansion project and addressing the current shortage of necessary staff.

During the meeting, the President assured the council that he would look into the issues they had raised.

Furthermore, during a community meeting held at the Ukulhas Convention Centre, the President highlighted several ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at the island's development, in line with his presidential pledges. President Muizzu further assured that these projects are being treated as high priorities and are being closely monitored to ensure they are completed at an accelerated pace.

Agreements for the development of the Ukulhas vessel docking area, the construction of a new office building at Ukulhas School, and the Ukulhas Sports Complex project were signed during a meeting held on the night of August 20. President Muizzu emphasized that these are essential projects for the island's progress. Furthermore, the President announced that the contract for the construction of an additional 50 housing units on the island would be awarded within the current year.
