Ministers have resorted to making TikTok videos following MDP's announcement of upcoming protests: Raee

Former Member of Parliament for the Makunudhoo constituency, Mohamed Raee, has claimed that government ministers have resorted to making TikTok videos following the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) announcement of upcoming protests.

Speaking at a pickup truck rally held Sunday afternoon to mobilize for the MDP’s upcoming "Dhathivejje" protest, Raee highlighted the soaring cost of living currently facing the Maldives. He noted that price hikes have impacted everything from the cans of coffee stocked on fishing vessels to the snacks purchased for school children's intervals.

Raee stated that the government began to panic the moment the MDP announced its plans to hold a protest on Thursday night. He noted that government ministers have resorted to making TikTok videos and claimed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is unable to withstand the pressure. Furthermore, Raee asserted that the government's primary objective is to obstruct and halt the MDP's protest.

The government has been thrown into a state of panic ever since we began speaking out and organizing this protest. Ministers have resorted to performing on TikTok, and the President has lost his composure in a desperate attempt to suppress this movement.

Furthermore, Raee stated that the MDP is organizing Thursday night's protest to ensure participation from the Maldivian public, particularly those who have been dismissed from their government jobs. Raee also noted that the MDP intends to mobilize supporters from islands near Male' as well as from across the entire country to join the demonstration.

Noting that a significant number of people are expected to participate in the protest, Raee stated that if the public wishes to topple the current administration, they must travel to Male' and join the demonstration.

Raee further stated that the government is not undertaking any development projects in any island and has halted projects initiated by the MDP administration. He added that the government has failed to deliver any initiatives that benefit the public.

Raee stated that the government continues to appoint numerous individuals to political positions, paying thousands in salaries to those who perform no actual work. He further noted that the price of the dollar in the Maldives has skyrocketed, causing immense difficulties for citizens traveling abroad for medical treatment.

He further stated that MDP taking to the streets in protest would cause significant discomfort for both the government and those who have been unjustly profiting from the people's tax money.
