Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has stated that the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has taken responsibility for an incident involving significant unrest and damage to state property during the party's internal elections in Hulhumalé.
The Minister confirmed to the media that the People's National Congress (PNC) has accepted responsibility for the property damage caused during the unrest at the school and has committed to providing full compensation.
Disturbances broke out during the election at Kamil Didi Primary School, where the polling station for the Hulhumalé North constituency was located.
Three individuals have previously been arrested in connection with this case. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
Videos of the incident circulating on social media depict a violent confrontation involving several members of the PNC attacking one another. Furthermore, significant damage was reportedly inflicted on state property within the school premises. The footage clearly shows individuals throwing chairs and other equipment, resulting in the destruction of property.
