Over 20 emergency incidents reported last week, fire emergencies most frequent: MNDF
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) responded to 23 emergency incidents across the country last week, with fire-related emergencies being the most frequent, particularly in Male' City. In addition to fire response, the military successfully conducted several search and rescue operations and medical evacuations during this period.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has reported that more than 20 emergency incidents occurred over the past week.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has reported that 23 emergency incidents occurred across various regions of the country between July 12 and July 18, 2026. The MNDF stated that the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) responded to these incidents and provided necessary assistance.
The MNDF stated that fire incidents were the most frequently reported occurrences.
Specifically, 12 fire incidents were reported, while five individuals were rescued in various separate operations. Additionally, four medical evacuations were successfully carried out.
Furthermore, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that one incident involving hazardous materials (HAZMAT) has occurred.
In terms of the locations where these incidents occurred, the highest number was recorded in Malé City.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the Male’ Area Command has responded to a total of 16 incidents related to the current weather conditions. Furthermore, the Central Area Command and Southern Area Command have each provided assistance in three separate incidents. The Northern Area Command has also attended to one reported incident.
Relevant authorities are working to reduce the occurrence of emergency incidents. However, the frequency of fire outbreaks continues to rise. This year alone, several dangerous fires have occurred within Male' City. Most recently, on the 9th of this month, a warehouse in the Maafannu district was engulfed in flames, resulting in significant property damage.
Furthermore, major incidents of this nature have previously occurred in warehouses used for the illegal storage of various chemicals and industrial materials. Consequently, the storage of chemicals in residential areas is now strictly prohibited.
