Major collision reported between a boat and a speedboat; vessel flees the scene

Five people are receiving treatment at IGMH following a serious collision between a speedboat and a boat near Malé. While the speedboat sustained significant damage in the crash, the boat involved reportedly fled the scene without stopping, and police are currently conducting a further investigation into the incident.

Five people have been injured following a serious maritime accident at sea near Malé.

The victims of the incident are currently receiving medical treatment at IGM Hospital.

Police informed the media that they received a report at approximately 9:16 p.m. on Thursday, regarding a maritime accident. According to officials, a speedboat named "Legion 1" was brought to the Izzudheen Jetty area on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé following the incident.

According to information released by the police so far, the other vessel involved in the collision fled the scene without stopping after the accident.

Police stated that the five individuals transported to IGMH for treatment following the incident include four male expatriates and one Maldivian man.

Videos and photographs of the incident circulating on social media show that the speedboat, named "LGN 101," sustained extensive damage. One side of the vessel was severely crushed, and the seating area was completely destroyed. The footage also depicts several passengers who appear to have suffered serious injuries.

Police are further investigating the case to determine the cause of the incident and to locate the vehicle that fled the scene following the accident.
