The contract for the construction of international and domestic quay walls has been awarded as part of the project to relocate the Male’ Commercial Port to Thilafushi.
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced that the project has been awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the MPL headquarters by CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim on behalf of the company, while Mao Bao signed on behalf of China Harbour Engineering.
In a post on X, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) stated that the agreement awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company includes the construction of a 375-meter quay wall with a depth of 14.6 meters, specifically designed for international container vessels. Additionally, the project involves the development of an 820-meter domestic quay wall with a depth of five meters to cater to local cargo vessels.
However, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has not disclosed the project's total cost or the specific timeline granted to China Harbour Engineering Company for its completion. Furthermore, the details regarding these terms were absent from the information shared by MPL on social media.
