The government has decided to develop Laamu Atoll's second airport in Isdhoo-Kalaidhoo as part of an initiative to expand the region's transport network. This location was selected to fulfill a presidential pledge, cited for its large land area and potential for population consolidation; however, public concern remains regarding the project's commencement date, as several infrastructure developments have recently faced delays due to economic challenges.

The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced that the second airport planned for Laamu Atoll will be developed in the Isdhoo-Kalaidhoo area.
In a video released on Thursday, the Ministry announced that the second airport in Laamu Atoll will be developed in the Isdhoo-Kalaidhoo area.
The Ministry of Infrastructure has highlighted that Laamu Atoll is characterized by its natural beauty and significant economic potential. As the atoll undergoes rapid development, the Ministry noted that expanding the transport network and establishing an additional airport remains a high priority and a key demand of the local residents.
Furthermore, the government stated that since Isdhoo-Kalaidhoo is a large island, it holds significant potential for population and development consolidation.
While an airport is already operational in Kadhdhoo, the development of a second airport in Laamu Atoll remains a key pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The President has reaffirmed on several occasions that a specific site for the new airport will be designated shortly, ensuring the fulfillment of this commitment.
The government has announced a new airport project at a time when numerous initiatives launched by both the previous and current administrations have come to a standstill. Notably, several ongoing airport projects across various islands remain stalled due to a variety of reasons.
Despite the government's continued pledges to develop new airports, the lack of physical progress on these projects has sparked significant public concern. The stagnation of numerous projects, primarily attributed to economic challenges, has become a major point of contention and grievance among the citizenry.
