Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency, Hussain Ziyad, has stated that Maldivians are now realizing the grave danger of entrusting the presidency to an inexperienced individual who lacks basic governance knowledge.
Speaking at Wednesday's parliamentary sitting, the member stated that the Maldives is currently witnessing the consequences of granting leadership to an individual lacking the necessary expertise.
He further stated that commodity prices in the Maldives have soared to extreme levels today. He also noted that recent changes to dollar and pharmaceutical policies have caused significant hardships for the public in those sectors.
He noted that when the government initially worked to revise cigarette prices, many warned that such a move would lead to the emergence of a black market. However, he stated that the government disregarded those concerns at the time, only to now propose a reversal of the policy.
Furthermore, Ziyad stated that this reflects the extent of the various mistakes made by the government. He emphasized that the administration must acknowledge these errors and that the incumbent President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is obligated to rectify them. He further noted that the President must uphold justice and integrity, asserting that these are the most fundamental qualities required of a leader.
Furthermore, MP Ziyad stated that parliamentarians are unable to speak against President Muizzu's wishes, asserting that members are currently held in a state of subjugation.
Continuing in this vein, the Member further stated that while Maldivians previously believed the greatest danger was placing a sword in the hands of a fool, they are now realizing that entrusting the presidency to an incompetent novice is far more perilous. According to the Dhivehi dictionary, the term used by the Member refers to an individual who lacks any form of knowledge or expertise.
