Mariyam Eema Mohamed, representing the Maldives at Miss World, has secured a spot in the top five for the Asia and Oceania region in the pageant's "Head-to-Head Challenge."
Eema is currently representing the Maldives at the 73rd Miss World pageant held in Vietnam. This competition is recognized as one of the most prestigious beauty pageants globally. This marks the first time the Maldives has been represented on the Miss World stage.
According to a social media post by Miss World, Eema is among the top five contestants from the Asia and Oceania region, alongside representatives from the Cook Islands, Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
Eema secured her place in the top five of the challenge based on the compelling arguments and insights she shared. Her presentation focused on the preservation of the Maldives' environment, the protection of its marine ecosystems, and the future sustainability of the nation's islands.
The message highlighted that with the Maldives sitting at an average elevation of just 1.5 meters above sea level, the lives of its people are inextricably linked to the ocean, emphasizing that the nation's coral reefs are far more than just a scenic attraction. It further noted that the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami served as a powerful reminder that these reefs act as a vital shield, protecting the islands' shorelines and the safety of their inhabitants.
Eema is participating in the Miss World pageant through a private organization, without any involvement from the government.
MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed has extended his congratulations to Eema for securing a position among the top five in the Asia and Oceania region.
