An American national has been arrested at Velana International International Airport and remanded in custody for 10 days after attempting to enter the Maldives with a loaded firearm magazine.
The Maldives Police Service issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the arrest of an American citizen under a court order. The individual was apprehended after a loaded magazine was discovered during a luggage search following their arrival in the Maldives by air on August 24, 2026.
The individual arrested has been identified as 36-year-old Kobol Britain Tyler.
Police have confirmed that when the suspect was brought before the court on August 25 for a remand hearing, the court ordered him to be detained for a period of 10 days.
Furthermore, police stated that the matter is under further investigation.
