The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, His Excellency Afreen Akhter, has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The meeting took place on Wednesday morning at the President's Office.
During the meeting, the discussions highlighted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United States. The two sides also explored avenues to further strengthen the long-standing ties of friendship that have flourished between the two nations over the past six decades.
During the meeting, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State expressed interest in collaborative efforts between the two nations across several key areas, including trade and economic advancement, strengthening tourism ties, regional security, and maritime safety. According to a statement from the President's Office, the President reaffirmed that under the "Maldives First" policy, the country remains open to development projects and initiatives aimed at economic diversification that yield national benefits.
The President's Office further stated that the meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to working together on initiatives of mutual benefit to both nations.
