Parliament grants approval to Finance Minister Zareer
The Parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of former Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer with 49 votes in favor. Zareer, a highly qualified finance professional, was nominated to the position following the resignation of Moosa Zameer. His appointment received full backing from the Government Oversight Committee, which recommended his approval after a thorough review of his credentials.

The Parliament has granted its approval for Hassan Zareer, who was appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.
Zareer was appointed to the post on June 8, following the resignation of the incumbent Finance Minister, Moosa Zameer.
During a meeting held on Monday, the Government Oversight Committee, which reviewed the appointment of Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance, recommended granting him parliamentary approval. The motion to approve Zameer was proposed by Ali Fazad, the Member of Parliament for Central Fuvahmulah, and was seconded by Hassan Waheed, the Member for Vilufushi.
The proposal was passed unanimously by all members present at the committee meeting.
The committee's report was presented and debated during Wednesday's parliamentary sitting, followed by a vote on whether to grant legislative consent for the ministerial appointment. Zareer’s appointment was approved unanimously, with all 49 members present voting in favor of granting him consent.
Prior to assuming his current role, Zareer served as the Commissioner General of Taxation, heading the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). In addition to being a qualified Chartered Accountant, Zareer holds advanced academic qualifications in the fields of accounting and finance.
