Haalu Kihinei? - L. Gan: skyrocketing farming costs leave agriculturalists in deep trouble
A veteran farmer from L. Gan has criticized the current administration for failed agricultural policies and skyrocketing costs of essential supplies. The farmer highlighted a massive gap between high production expenses and low returns, accusing President Muizzu of deceptive leadership similar to Donald Trump. Further, the report alleges systemic corruption and a lack of accountability within the government, leading to a significant decay of public trust across farming communities.

The government's flashy promises are crumbling under the weight of reality, at least according to a veteran agriculturalist from L. Gan.
Speaking on a recent episode of RaajjeTV's Haalu Kihineh? show, this veteran of 17 years in the fields pulled no punches when dismantling the current administration's failed policies.
His verdict is grim, exposing a reality where regular farmers are enduring crushing financial misery because the cost of everyday agricultural supplies has gone through the roof, effectively draining their hard-earned income.
Ridiculous mathematics of modern Maldivian farming
To understand just how bad the situation has become, one only needs to look at the absurd price spikes hitting basic supplies.
A single bag of cow dung, which used to be a manageable MVR 50, has now ballooned to an unforgiving range of MVR 115 to MVR 125. The inflation gets even more insulting when looking at essential hardware; tools that used to retail for a modest MVR 175 have shockingly climbed to a massive MVR 900.
Then there is smaller gear that previously cost a mere MVR 75, which has now been jacked up to MVR 375. It is a financial bloodbath, and the local farming community is the one bleeding out cash.
Trumpian tactics in the Maldives
The disillusionment goes far deeper than just a ballooning grocery bill for fertilizer. The veteran cultivator openly compared President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to former U.S. President Donald Trump, pointing out a blatant lack of consistency in how the head of state communicates.
The Muizzu administration stands accused of outright tricking the populace. It is a bitter pill to swallow for the citizens who actively put sweat and tears into electing this leadership, but the sentiment on the ground indicates that their support has officially evaporated.
The president and his American counterpart are viewed as two peas in a pod, unable to keep their narratives straight from one minute to the next, focused entirely on pulling the wool over the public's eyes, prompting a vow from this seasoned farmer to never back Dr. Muizzu ever again.
High production costs and low returns
The nightmare does not end at the checkout counter of agricultural shops either.
Even if a farmer manages to absorb the brutal production expenses, actually selling the harvested goods poses an entirely separate, uphill battle.
It is a vicious cycle that leaves ordinary citizens trapped in increasingly hostile and unlivable daily conditions.
Great administration reshuffle game
Making matters worse is the stench of institutional rot. The report brought to light serious allegations of systemic corruption running rampant among upper-level government figures.
The current playbook for handling internal theft apparently involves zero accountability; instead of firing or prosecuting light-fingered officials, the state simply plays a game of musical chairs, shuffling compromised individuals to new offices and bringing in fresh faces to fill the voids.
Ultimately, the frustrations aired by this individual are a microcosm of a much larger, spreading decay of public trust across farming towns.
It shows exactly how the soaring cost of living is strangling normal life, while revealing just how fed up the public has become with a state machinery that seems built on deceit and untouchable corruption.
