VP returns to Malé after official visit to Berlin
Participating as a keynote speaker at the Berlin Climate Mobility Forum in Germany, the Vice President called for increased international support to address climate-induced migration challenges. During high-level sessions, he emphasized the urgent need for climate finance and sustainable investment in adaptation efforts for nations threatened by rising sea levels. Furthermore, the Vice President highlighted the importance of ensuring that migration, when necessary, remains a planned and voluntary process that upholds the dignity of affected populations.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has returned to Male' after concluding his official visit to Germany to attend the "Berlin Climate Mobility Forum 2024."
He addressed the forum as a keynote speaker. Prior to the opening of the event, he attended the "Leaders Gala Dinner" hosted by the UN Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) in collaboration with the Robert Bosch Foundation, which provided participants an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on key priorities ahead of the forum.
During this visit, the Vice President participated in several key sessions and delivered multiple addresses. Speaking at the high-level leaders' session, he called for enhanced international cooperation and increased climate finance to support vulnerable nations facing displacement and other challenges caused by the adverse effects of climate change. Furthermore, he emphasized that such efforts must prioritize community resilience. He noted that while migration may become necessary, it must be a planned, voluntary, and dignified process.
Furthermore, during a high-level panel discussion on sea-level rise, he emphasized the necessity of sustained investment in adaptation to protect rights against the challenges posed by rising seas. He noted that this requires coordinated engagement across all levels of governance. He also underscored the importance of providing the necessary support to ensure that communities can continue to live with dignity in their chosen homelands.
Furthermore, during the Champions Breakfast, he encouraged participants to reflect on the key outcomes of the forum, strengthen partnerships, and advance commitments toward achieving a "Global Consensus on Climate Mobility."
During the forum, the Vice President shared the Maldives' perspectives and vision regarding the principles of climate mobility. He further emphasized the critical importance of scaling up climate finance and adaptation measures for vulnerable nations.
