Ahmed Ghalib, the Male' City Council member for the South Hulhumale' constituency, has stated that public support and votes should not be sought by deceiving citizens through the mere arrival of land reclamation equipment on islands.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Ghalib sharply criticized the government's policies. He stated that numerous projects were awarded across various islands in the lead-up to recent elections, alleging that a significant portion of these contracts was granted to companies with close ties to senior government officials.
Ghalib noted that numerous projects across various islands have already come to a standstill due to the government's failure to settle outstanding payments.
Furthermore, he stated that the government is attempting to undertake projects beyond its capacity, resulting in careless execution merely for the sake of appearances. Ghalib also remarked that winning the public's affection cannot be achieved simply by landing land reclamation equipment on islands.
Furthermore, he alleged that while providing essential services to the public is the responsibility of every government, this administration is merely attempting to deceive the people to secure electoral victories. Ghalib further noted that the government remains indifferent and complacent even as the companies contracted for these projects face bankruptcy.
Winning the hearts of the people is not achieved by simply landing land reclamation equipment on an island. It is the fundamental responsibility of any sitting government to provide necessary services to its citizens. Instead, the government remains indifferent, even as companies face financial ruin, while they resort to deception and smoke and mirrors—deploying excavators and heavy machinery solely to secure election victories.Ahmed Ghalib, Male' City Council Member for the South Hulhumale' Constituency
Ghalib highlighted that small and medium-sized enterprises across the various islands of the Maldives are currently facing severe hardships, with reports indicating that these business owners are struggling to survive. He further stated that while the public continues to extend their full cooperation to the government, there is no justification for the administration to mislead the citizens.
Ghalib further stated that the government remains indifferent to the hardships faced by the citizens. He questioned the government's sincerity, asserting that its sole priority today is to deceive the public in order to secure electoral victories.
