President Stresses Need for Timely Blood Supply in Emergencies
On World Blood Donor Day, the President expressed his gratitude to blood donors for their compassion, highlighting blood as an irreplaceable resource. He stated that the government aims to foster a culture of voluntary blood donation to ensure emergency preparedness in an island nation like the Maldives. Furthermore, amid ongoing challenges at the Thalassemia Center, the President emphasized the vital importance of individual social responsibility in donating blood.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that ensuring the timely availability of blood during emergencies is a vital factor in saving lives.
In a post shared on X to mark World Blood Donor Day, the President expressed his gratitude to blood donors for their remarkable display of compassion and selflessness.
The President stated that blood donors play a vital role in ensuring that patients requiring emergency care and those undergoing long-term treatment receive life-saving assistance exactly when it is needed most.
He noted that despite the extraordinary advancements achieved in medicine and technology today, blood remains an indispensable resource for which there is still no substitute.
The President described voluntary blood donation as an essential contribution toward safeguarding public health, ensuring the comprehensive delivery of healthcare services, and maintaining national readiness for emergency situations.
He emphasized that, particularly in an archipelagic nation like the Maldives, ensuring timely access to blood during medical emergencies is a vital factor in saving lives.
Concluding his post, the President stated that the government remains committed to raising public awareness about blood donation and fostering a spirit of mutual support. He further emphasized the administration's ongoing efforts to establish a culture where every citizen fulfills their individual responsibility in safeguarding the health and well-being of the community.
World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on June 14th.
Amidst reports that three children were transfused with contaminated blood at the Thalassemia Center and public protests over blood shortages, the President has stated that he was unaware of the situation at the facility.
