Solih: MDP will not back down in its efforts to hold the government accountable
After casting his vote in the MDP internal elections, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that the party must intensify its efforts to hold the government accountable, citing concerns over its shift toward authoritarianism. He further assured that regardless of who is elected to the party's leadership, he remains committed to addressing public concerns and ensuring the administration is not given the opportunity to commit further grievances.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that there are significant public concerns regarding the current administration, asserting that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will remain steadfast in its efforts to address these issues and hold the government accountable.
Speaking to the media after casting his vote in the MDP internal elections, President Solih stated that the past year has showcased the maturation of democracy within the party. Highlighting that today’s election to appoint a new Chairperson is a significant and pivotal internal process, the President noted that the proceedings are being conducted with a high level of engagement and interest.
Furthermore, he stated that regardless of today's election results, he remains hopeful that the work to hold the government accountable will be further strengthened. He also provided assurances that he will always stand with the MDP, regardless of the party's leadership.
Speaking on the current administration's performance, President Solih stated that the public harbors significant concerns regarding the government. He emphasized his commitment to addressing these grievances and working extensively to hold the government accountable. He further noted that despite the defeat in the presidential election, the MDP has demonstrated resilience by regrouping and mobilizing swiftly.
Criticizing the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, former President Solih stated that President Muizzu is moving rapidly toward authoritarianism. He emphasized that it is now crucial to change the current government and stressed that the MDP must avoid making further mistakes. He added that the party should not allow any more internal errors to occur.
