Malaysian woman arrested and remanded on suspicion of drug trafficking
The Criminal Court has remanded a 38-year-old woman into custody for 30 days following her arrest for allegedly smuggling a large quantity of narcotics into the Maldives from Malaysia. Although the suspect claimed she was transporting the luggage at the request of others, the court determined there was sufficient evidence to support the charges based on reports from Customs and the Police. Authorities are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter, as it is believed that additional individuals may be involved in the smuggling operation.

A Malaysian woman has been arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of trafficking drugs into the Maldives.
The Criminal Court on the 23rd of this month ordered the remand of a 38-year-old woman, Ranjini Jeevanantham, for a period of 30 days.
The court order stated that sufficient evidence has been gathered to support the allegations against Ranjini. The evidence submitted includes an incident report from the Maldives Customs Service, police statements, a crime scene investigation report, and a forensic analysis report of the seized narcotics.
Furthermore, he testified in court that the luggage containing the narcotics did not belong to him. His legal counsel stated that he had only transported the bag under his name after individuals at the airport requested him to do so on their behalf.
Regarding the case, police stated that a large quantity of narcotics was recovered. Furthermore, authorities informed the court that additional suspects are believed to be involved in the matter.
The police are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter.
