Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has refuted all allegations made against him by former Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, stating that he has requested the Maldives Police Service to clarify the facts of the matter to the public.
Minister Ihusaan made these remarks in response to allegations raised by former Controller of Immigration Shamaan, who has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Minister Ihusaan stated that Shamaan is making baseless and false allegations, noting that there is no evidence or proof to support these repeated claims. The Minister further emphasized that he had previously clarified to the media that these accusations are entirely untrue.
Minister Ihusaan stated that the evidence gathered by the police clearly refutes the allegations that Shamaan was framed, confirming there is no truth to such claims. The Minister further noted that he has requested the police institution to provide a detailed clarification to the public regarding the facts of the case.
On June 9, Shamaan was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty on three separate charges. Speaking to journalists while attending his court hearing, Shamaan alleged that the move to frame him began after he brought corruption allegations involving Minister Ihusaan to the attention of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Shamaan alleged that once irregularities in the foreign labor quota system were brought to light, an investigation into the process was conducted, which ultimately uncovered corrupt activities involving Minister Ihusaan. He further claimed that although these findings were presented to the President, his failure to take any action demonstrates that the President was fully aware of the situation.
Furthermore, Shamaan stated that he had confirmed Minister Ihusaan was approving work permits and quotas for Bangladeshi nationals in exchange for 8,000 Rufiyaa as a bribe. He also noted that various allegations began to be leveled against him as soon as he informed President Muizzu of the matter.
He further stated that the foreign national linked to the allegations against Shamaan was released directly upon the orders of Minister Ihusaan.
