MDP's current successes are result of a shift in public opinion, not progress gained from specific individuals joining party: Hussain
Shaheem stated that the public is now beginning to realize the true extent of the development achieved during former President Solih’s administration, contrasting it with the rhetoric previously used against that government. He noted that the current administration's failure to progress with development projects has shifted public sentiment, as evidenced by MDP’s recent electoral successes. Consequently, Shaheem emphasized that citizens now recognize the significant decline in the country's current situation.

Former Member of Parliament for the South Henveiru constituency, Hussain Shaheem (Andhun Hussain), has stated that the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) recent electoral successes are the result of a shift in public mindset rather than the influence of specific individuals joining the party.
Speaking at the "Ithubaaru" campaign rally held in Thinadhoo City on Saturday night, Shaheem highlighted the efforts made by the MDP towards the progress of the nation and its citizens. He also addressed the misinformation spread by opposition members and critics regarding the government during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Noting that the current political landscape has shifted significantly, Shaheem stated that while working in the interest of the nation and its people, he always wishes for the best outcome for the party. However, he emphasized that a party's success and progress are not determined by the joining or departure of specific individuals, but are rather the result of shifts in public opinion.
Furthermore, Shaheem noted that within the Maldivian political landscape, it is the citizens who form their judgments based on the government's actions and the rhetoric of the opposition. He added that it is ultimately the people who decide whether to change the administration during a presidential election.
During our administration, as we were recovering from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our party’s president, the then-chairperson, and several others turned against the government. Day and night, about 14 members of Parliament relentlessly attacked the administration. The rhetoric coming from within our own ranks was even more severe than that of the opposition, and unfortunately, the public began to believe those narratives. The reality is that those very individuals who made those accusations are now coming forward and admitting to the public that what they said was wrong. They are now stating that no such wrongdoing occurred and that there were no issues with those officials, dismissing their previous claims as mere misunderstandings. Consequently, the people of the Maldives have recognized this truth and are now consistently granting the MDP a majority and their support in every election.Hussein Shaheem (Andhun Hussain), the former Member of Parliament for the Henveiru South constituency.
Shaheem stated that former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration implemented development projects across all inhabited islands according to the people's wishes, without discriminating between small and large communities. He further noted that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government ensured that the public was not burdened, while successfully continuing and inaugurating major infrastructure projects, such as airports.
Shaheem stated that although the public voted to replace a leader who spearheaded development projects across the Maldives in the 2023 presidential election, those same citizens now regret their decision. He further remarked that the current administration has failed to initiate even a single project, claiming they are merely traveling to every island with nothing more than a single boat of lime and a spade.
