PNC has sent an Ukulhas resident to seek votes here: Nasheed
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has strongly criticized the government for sending a cabinet minister who is not from Addu City to campaign for the People’s National Congress (PNC) ahead of the Hithadhoo North by-election. Nasheed asserted that the people of Hithadhoo would not be deceived by the ruling party’s decision to sideline its primary winner in favor of another candidate for the parliamentary ticket. Furthermore, he emphasized that only Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administrations have historically delivered genuine development to Addu City.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has remarked that the individual sent to lead the campaign for Ahmed Saeed (Soda), the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate contesting the vacant Hithadhoo North seat in the People's Majlis, is "a youth from Ukulhas."
During the "Sobe Rally" held in Addu on Thursday night, Nasheed launched a scathing critique of the current administration. Referring to the PNC’s campaign to elect Soda for the vacant North Hithadhoo constituency seat, Nasheed remarked that the candidate brought to Addu City by the PNC was an outsider from the island of Ukulhas.
Nasheed was referring to the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu.
The PNC has fielded a candidate from Ukulhas to seek votes here. A native of Ukulhas has been sent here to Hithadhoo in Addu Atoll. This is a crucial seat, yet they are sending someone from Ukulhas to campaign for it. It is as if they have no one. They simply do not have a single person from Addu Atoll willing to step forward and represent them for this task.Former President Mohamed Nasheed
In previous election campaigns, high-profile figures from Addu City, such as Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, were known for their vigorous presence and active involvement in the city as early as a month before polling day. However, the noticeable absence of these prominent Addu-based figures in the current efforts to secure the vacant North Hithadhoo constituency seat for the PNC has led many to question their lack of engagement.
Referring to the matter, Nasheed stated that while former Member of Parliament Mohamed Sinan had initially secured the PNC ticket to contest the Addu City North Hithadhoo constituency by-election, he was subsequently cast aside to award the ticket to an individual from the MDP.
Consequently, he stated that the choice for the people of Hithadhoo in this election is now very clear.
The ticket was snatched away from the rightful winner. Sinan won it by a margin of over 200 votes. Yet, he was cast aside to find an MDP loyalist. They sought out Soda and handed the ticket to him instead. Look at this. You cannot deceive the people of Hithadhoo. They know exactly how they must cast their votes.Former President Mohamed Nasheed
Furthermore, Nasheed stated that only MDP administrations have worked towards the development of Addu City, while all other governments have neglected the region. He added that even in terms of social welfare, the MDP is the only party that has delivered results.
