Former Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam has alleged that Ahmed Saeed (Soda), the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate contesting the Addu North Hithadhoo by-election, has been blacklisted by two neighboring countries.
Speaking at an MDP rally on Thursday night, Aslam stated that a country would only deny entry to an individual for a significant reason. However, Aslam did not disclose which two countries had blacklisted Saeed. Aslam further noted that he was unaware of the specific reasons behind the entry bans imposed on him.
Speaking at the gathering, Aslam highly praised the MDP candidate for the constituency, former Mayor Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe). He also responded to allegations made by senior government officials, who had labeled MDP members as terrorists for allegedly inciting unrest and setting fires in Addu following the party's loss of power. Aslam noted that Ahmed Saeed was among those charged in connection with the events of February 7. He asserted that if anyone were to be considered a terrorist, it would be him.
Aslam stated that at a time when the rights secured by the MDP are being eroded, the party requires reliable members like Sobe. He further described Sobe as a pillar of strength for the MDP. Aslam also emphasized that Sobe is a man of integrity who cannot be bought and remains deeply loyal to the party's cause.
"This is the quality a member must possess. This is the character a member should embody," Aslam said.
Aslam also stated that those who chase the money distributed from the President's official residence, Mulee'aage, will have nothing to offer the citizens.
