Even if things go wrong, PNC members will remain silent and paralyzed; that is why MDP must be elected in by-election: Sodiq
Sodiq, a candidate contesting the North Hithadhoo by-election, has strongly criticized the government, accusing officials of dishonesty regarding the Hankede project and employment opportunities at Shangri-La Resort. He emphasized that a representative must be present in Parliament to hold the government accountable for its incompetence, which he claims has led to the stagnation of vital development projects.

Former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election, has stated that voters should elect the MDP candidate because PNC members remain silent and paralyzed even when the government fails to deliver.
Sodiq made these remarks while addressing the MDP's "Sobe Rally" held on Thursday night. He questioned the current status of the Hankede project, noting that despite the government’s grand celebrations and fireworks in Addu to mark its commencement, there is no visible progress. The MDP has previously asserted that although financing for the Hankede project was secured during its administration, the initiative has stalled midway due to the current government's incompetence. Sodiq stated that he is the candidate who will demand accountability regarding the failure to open Hankede.
"I am the one who will demand to know why Hankede remains unopened. That is why you should vote for me," he said.
Furthermore, Sodiq stated that the government is spreading falsehoods regarding employment opportunities at the city's Shangri-La Resort, noting that those promised jobs have yet to be hired. He also criticized the delay in completing the Addu Link Road, describing the 1,000-day timeline as a significant waste of time. Sodiq asserted that he is the only individual capable of questioning the government on these unresolved issues and holding them accountable.
Furthermore, he spoke out against the government's use of derogatory language toward journalists. He characterized these actions as an attempt by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to emulate the persona of "Trump."
Sodiq stated that the North Hithadhoo constituency is of national significance and emphasized that its representative must be someone capable of holding the government accountable for the unresolved issues across Addu City. He further asserted that a member of the PNC would be unable to fulfill that role.
