President Solih arrives in Addu to join Sodiq's campaign
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and senior MDP leadership have arrived in Addu City to campaign for Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe) in the upcoming Hithadhoo North by-election. Sodiq, who has also secured the endorsement of former President Abdulla Yameen, will face off against the ruling PNC candidate, Ahmed Saeed (Soda). The by-election was triggered after the Supreme Court disqualified former MP Mohamed Sinan due to an outstanding debt, ruling that he no longer met the constitutional requirements for parliament.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih arrived in Addu City on Wednesday night to join the campaign activities of Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), the former Mayor of Addu City, who is contesting the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election on the MDP ticket.
President Solih received a warm welcome from a large number of residents at the airport upon his arrival in Addu City.
Accompanying President Solih on this trip are MDP’s Acting Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa (Gapo) and Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim. Additionally, MDP President Abdulla Shahid is scheduled to arrive in Addu City this Thursday to join the campaign efforts for Sodiq.
As the excitement surrounding the North Hithadhoo by-election intensifies, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has officially declared his support for the MDP candidate, Sodiq.
Sodiq has secured the MDP ticket without a primary, as he was the sole candidate to apply for the seat after the party opened the opportunity for nominations.
The Elections Commission has announced that two candidates will contest the upcoming by-election scheduled for the 6th of this month. The candidates are Ahmed Shaheed (Soda), the incumbent councilor for the Hithadhoo Moolekede constituency, and Abdulla Sodiq.
A by-election for the North Hithadhoo constituency has been triggered following a Supreme Court ruling that disqualified the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mohamed Sinan of the People's National Congress (PNC).
Although Sinan and Soda both contested the PNC primary, which Sinan initially won, the party subsequently awarded the ticket to Soda after Sinan decided to withdraw his candidacy.
