Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency, Ahmed Didi, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s claims regarding the absence of a responsible opposition in the Maldives are driven by emotion. Didi asserted that the President is well aware that a robust opposition currently exists within the country.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala surukhee" program, Ahmed Didi stated that if the Maldives lacked a responsible opposition, the government would not have faced a 30 percent defeat in the recent referendum. He further noted that without such an opposition, they would not have secured such overwhelming support across all cities in the local council elections. Therefore, he remarked that it is surprising the President claims to see no opposition.
MP Ahmed Didi further stated that the President is well aware that the strongest challenge to his administration’s success in the upcoming presidential election is the current robust opposition movement.
