Meekail expresses concern over threats to sideline specific members if chairperson election is lost
Meekail Naseem, a candidate for the MDP Chairperson position, has stated that marginalizing members for supporting specific candidates in internal elections is unacceptable. He further noted that the party's defeat in the 2023 presidential election was caused by a faction that prioritized personal interests over the party's collective welfare before ultimately defecting.

Meekail Naseem, a candidate for the MDP chairpersonship, has expressed concern over reports that certain individuals will be sidelined if they are not elected in the upcoming internal election.
Meekail made these remarks while speaking at a session of the "Ithubaaru" (Trust) campaign.
Meekail expressed concern over remarks made by his opponents within the MDP National Congress, which suggested that his supporters should be relegated to the "back seat." He stated that he does not accept the marginalization or sidelining of members based on their affiliations during internal party elections.
Furthermore, Meekail stated that those standing with him are the individuals who worked to sustain the party when it was left stranded, and emphasized that they cannot be sidelined. He pledged that under his chairpersonship, he would not allow any group to be marginalized in such a manner.
Meekail kail further stated that the MDP lost the 2023 election because certain individuals prioritized their personal interests over the general welfare of the party. He noted that after failing to accept their defeat in the primary, a group defected from the party and actively worked to ensure the MDP's electoral loss. He emphasized that their primary objective at the time was to sabotage the party's chances of winning the election.
"The MDP lost the 2023 presidential election the moment a group within our ranks refused to accept defeat in the party primary, broke away to form a separate party, and fielded their own candidate. This was done with the sole intention of ensuring the MDP's defeat. Had they supported the MDP in the second round, or even remained neutral, the party would not have lost the election," Meekail said.
Furthermore, Meekail urged those holding elected positions within the MDP to cast aside their fears and step forward boldly to advocate for and support the candidate of their choice.
