The People's National Front (PNF) today pledged its support for the collaborative efforts outlined in a joint statement issued by former Presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Mohamed Nasheed, and Abdulla Yameen.
The MDP had previously decided to support the collaborative efforts of the three presidents.
The President of PNF and former President Abdulla Yameen, along with former President Mohamed Nasheed and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, met last Friday to discuss the major challenges currently facing the nation.
The discussions highlighted concerns regarding the current administration's interference with press freedom, including the raiding of a news outlet and the imprisonment of journalists and peaceful protesters. Furthermore, the talks addressed the erosion of the freedoms of assembly and expression, the disenfranchisement of the public, and actions that undermine the democratic principles established by Maldivians through years of effort.
A joint resolution was issued by the three former presidents during the meeting. Following a Senate meeting held on Thursday, the People's National Front (PNF) decided to extend its support to the points outlined in that resolution.
The PNF stated that its participation and continued involvement in the joint efforts of the three former presidents is the best course of action for the nation and its citizens.
