Building housing Dhamanaveshi is being converted into an Urban Primary Health Care Center
The Ministry of Health has announced plans to renovate the Dhamanaveshi health center in Malé and upgrade it into an Urban Primary Health Care Center. During the renovation period, services have been temporarily relocated to the Maafannu Urban Health Center and the GP Clinic in Hulhumalé. Following discussions regarding these changes, staff members have urged the Ministry to ensure that arrangements are managed effectively to prevent any disruptions to public health services.

The Ministry of Health has announced plans to renovate the former Thalassemia Center, currently housing Dhamanaveshi, to establish an Urban Primary Health Care Center.
The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that, as part of the government’s policy to safeguard public health, a new Urban Primary Health Care Center will be established in the Male' region. The facility will be developed by renovating the building currently housing Dhamanaveshi, which previously served as the Thalassemia Center, to provide General Practice (GP) and urban primary healthcare services.
The Ministry has announced that starting June 1, 2026, services currently provided by Dhamanaveshi will be temporarily relocated to the Urban Primary Health Care Center in Maafannu, as well as the Public Health Unit and GP Clinic in Hulhumale.
The Ministry of Health has announced plans to renovate the current Dhamanaveshi building and establish it as an Urban Primary Health Care Center. Following this decision, senior officials from the Ministry and the Male' City Group of Hospitals met with the staff of Dhamanaveshi on Sunday, November 17. It was also decided that the facility would be closed starting Thursday, May 21.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the closure of Dhamanaveshi, with staff highlighting that this period coincides with a peak in demand for their services.
Furthermore, employees noted that the facility currently serves over 100 people daily, emphasizing that arrangements must be made to ensure services remain uninterrupted. The staff also stated that when Dhamanaveshi reopens as the Urban Primary Health Care Center, all services must be fully established and operational.
