Ministry probes negligence claims against Ungoofaaru Hospital, following death of pregnant woman

The Ministry of Health has launched a probe into allegations of negligence towards a pregnant patient, at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital in Raa atoll.

The hospital faces allegations of being negligent in the case of a pregnant woman and her unborn child, hailing from Vaadhoo island of Raa atoll, dying while under their care.

The family has pinned several accusations on the hospital, for being negligent in providing adequate medical treatment for the pregnant woman which led to the death of her and her unborn child.

This is to have occurred during September 2023. The child is to have died during September, and the woman died last week.

The woman’s condition is to have deteriorated after her child’s death, and she was put on ventilator support before being transferred to the capital, Malé for further treatment.

Due to the multiple allegations of negligence pinned on Ungoofaaru Hospital, the health ministry has launched an investigation in connection with the case.
