The Minister's remarks come amid persistent concerns and complaints regarding the government's failure to complete Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for certain development projects. It has been specifically noted that the government frequently bypasses the EIA process for projects launched in the lead-up to elections.
Concerns have emerged regarding the current administration's repeated amendments to environmental regulations, which have allowed specific government projects to proceed under special permits. However, it was noted that despite these domestic actions, the Maldives continues to advocate strongly for environmental protection on the international stage and remains active in signing global environmental cooperation agreements.
