Administrative jurisdictions of Addu City, Addu Hulhudhoo, and Addu Meedhoo amended
Following a public referendum to restructure the administrative divisions of Addu City, the President has officially designated Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo as two separate inhabited islands. Exercising the powers vested in the presidency under the Decentralization Act, these changes have been gazetted along with updated maps defining the jurisdictional boundaries of each island. This decision marks a significant restructuring of the Addu City Council's composition and administrative framework.

The President's Office has officially announced changes to the administrative jurisdictions of Addu City, specifically concerning the constituencies of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.
According to a statement issued by the President's Office, these changes were implemented following the results of a public referendum held on October 25, 2025, to gauge the opinions of the residents of Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo regarding the restructuring of the Addu City Council. Consequently, the boundaries of Addu City have been redefined, and Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo—which were previously part of the city's jurisdiction—have now been designated as two separate inhabited islands.
The President's Office stated that Presidential Decrees 2026/3, 2026/4, and 2026/5 have been published in the Government Gazette, outlining the changes brought to the administrative jurisdictions of Addu City, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo. The charts defining the specific boundaries of these jurisdictions are included in the schedules of the respective decrees.
Under Section 56-1 (a) of Law No. 7/2010 (the Decentralization Act of the Maldives), the President is vested with the authority to determine the administrative jurisdictions of all City Councils and Island Councils across the administrative divisions of the Maldives.
