Authorities seize large quantity of illicit tobacco and 75 cartons of smuggled cigarettes
In a special operation targeting the illegal import and sale of tobacco products, Maldives Police have seized 18 cases of tobacco and 75 cartons of cigarettes. Acting on intelligence, authorities conducted searches on November 13 across two residences in Malé and Hulhumalé, as well as a van used to transport the contraband. While the vehicle has been taken into police custody, no arrests have been made thus far as the investigation continues.

The Maldives Police Service has announced the seizure of a large quantity of tobacco products and 75 cartons of cigarettes that were illegally imported and being sold in the country.
Police announced on Thursday that they have seized a shipment of cigarettes smuggled into the country and being sold in violation of local laws and regulations.
The items were seized and taken into police custody during an operation launched following intelligence reports regarding the illegal import and sale of various cigarette brands in the Maldives.
Police stated that the operation, conducted on the night of May 13, involved searches of a house in the Galolhu district of Malé, an apartment in the Aman Dhodhi complex in Hulhumalé Phase 2, and a van. Authorities confirmed that 18 cases of tobacco and 75 cartons of cigarettes were seized during the operation and are currently in police custody.
Police stated that the van involved in the incident has been towed, though no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
