A 39-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a fire that broke out on a fuel boat docked at the F. Feeali harbor.
Police announced on Thursday that a foreign national injured in a fire aboard a vessel docked at the Feeali harbor on April 9, 2026, passed away on May 4, 2026, while undergoing treatment. Authorities further confirmed that the individual's body was repatriated to his home country on May 5.
The victim sustained burns to 60 percent of his body in the devastating fire that occurred on April 9, 2026. He initially received medical attention at the local health center. He was subsequently transferred to IGMH, where he was placed on a ventilator for further treatment.
The MIFCO ice plant on the island was completely destroyed in the incident, while two grouper fishing vessels and a sand-transporting dhoni were burned beyond use. Additionally, a newly launched fiber vessel sustained significant damage after being caught in the blaze.
