Despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to downsize the government and reduce the number of political appointees in line with public sentiment, Aishath Alaika Adnan, who recently faced defeat in the parliamentary elections, has been appointed to a State Minister position within the administration.
Reports indicate that Alaika has been appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Tourism. Notably, she recently contested for the presidency of the Women's Development Committee but failed to secure public support.
The current administration continues to appoint individuals who have lost elections or been dismissed from ministerial posts to various government positions. This practice has drawn widespread public criticism.
As the government continues to offer various excuses for the current situation, particularly by citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, many have pointed out a disconnect between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s rhetoric and his actions. Critics argue that despite these justifications, the appointment of individuals to political positions shows no signs of slowing down. Consequently, the government has faced a wave of criticism across social media platforms, with many users highlighting the inconsistency between the administration's words and its practices.
