Government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has refused to answer whether a statement was sought from President Mohamed Muizzu regarding the "Aisha Documentary" published by the online news outlet "Adhadhu."
During a press conference held on Thursday, a journalist inquired whether President Muizzu had provided a formal statement to the police regarding the "Aisha Documentary" investigation. However, Presidential Spokesperson Shareef repeatedly emphasized that the President has denied the allegations. In response, the journalist pointed out that a public denial during a press conference does not constitute a formal statement provided to a police investigation.
I have shared as much as I can at this stage regarding the ongoing investigation. I will not be making any further comments on an active government inquiry.Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu)
While Shareef spoke in this manner, he did not provide an answer when questioned about whether President Muizzu’s statement had been recorded for the police investigation into the matter.
In connection with this case, Aishath Eesha Ashraf, a former employee of the President's Office, was summoned for police questioning on the night of Tuesday, November 5, and again on Wednesday, November 6, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. However, her legal team has stated that the investigation into Eesha was concluded without providing her a fair opportunity to defend herself or present her account of the events.
