Police summon Eesha after cordoning off all surrounding roads; authorities continue to obstruct journalists
Although Easha is fully prepared to cooperate with the investigation into allegations of defaming the President, police cordoned off the area where she was summoned and obstructed journalists active at the scene. Despite these restrictions, she has already agreed to provide access to her phone records to assist with the ongoing inquiry.

Eesha was summoned to Henveiru Police Station at 4:00 PM on 6 May 2026.
Aishath Eesha Ashraf was summoned to police headquarters again on Wednesday regarding the investigation into the documentary "Aisha," published by the online news outlet "Adhadhu."
Eesha appeared at the police station accompanied by her legal counsel, former Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem and Mohamed Fareed.
Security was significantly tightened around the Henveiru Police Station as Eesha arrived for questioning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. All access roads leading to the station were cordoned off with barricades, with a heavy police presence maintained throughout the area.
Police are obstructing journalists active in the area from covering the news. Officers have blocked reporters from proceeding past the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Janavaree Magu. Furthermore, police have prevented both members of the public and journalists from entering a cafe located within the vicinity.
Eesha is accused of involvement in a documentary allegedly produced to defame President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. She was summoned to the Hulhumale' Police Station on Tuesday night for questioning and to provide a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
Eesha’s lawyer, Hussain Shameem, stated that his client is fully committed to cooperating with the police investigation regarding the "Aisha" documentary. Shameem further noted that Eesha is prepared to share all relevant details, including her phone records and messages, to assist with the inquiry.
Shameem further emphasized that Isha is a victim in this incident. The lawyer stated that Isha intends to provide the police with a detailed account of the events and is committed to cooperating fully with the investigation.
