Former Member of Parliament for the Ungoofaaru constituency, Mohamed Waheed (Wadde), has stated that a new political dawn has emerged in the Maldives, with vibrant competition now visible across the entire nation.
Speaking at the "Bodu Badhalu" rally held on Tuesday night, Waheed stated that former President Mohamed Nasheed’s return to the political arena is already being felt across the nation, sparking competition in every direction. He further noted that this heightened sense of rivalry is also clearly visible within the MDP.
Waheed stated that Nasheed’s continued involvement in politics is essential to maintaining genuine political competition. He further remarked that if the vessel is to withstand rough seas and increase its speed, its command must be entrusted to someone who possesses a natural understanding of such matters.
Furthermore, Waheed stated that until Nasheed’s practical return to the political arena, some believed there was no one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s caliber. However, he noted that the entire landscape has now shifted, remarking that the political sun has risen once again.
When the sky is dark, countless stars are visible. Once the moon rises, only a few remain in sight. But with the rising of the sun, everything else vanishes. The political sun has risen once again. It is already high in the sky. Observe how, until President Nasheed’s return, it seemed there was no one in this country who could match Muizzu. No one even dared to hope that he could be challenged.Mohamed Waheed (Wadde), the former Member of Parliament for the Ungoofaaru constituency.
Referring to the current political climate, Waheed stated that there are many individuals in the Maldives who buy votes through bribery, and alleged that President Muizzu is following the same practice.
However, he stated that the public also recognizes the need for significant changes in the Maldives at this time. He further noted that Nasheed is a leader who secures votes through vision and policy, a quality that has been demonstrated in the past.
