MDP requests polling station in Hulhumale' for North Hithadhoo by-election
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested the Election Commission to place a ballot box in Hulhumale' for the upcoming North Hithadhoo constituency by-election to accommodate approximately 300 eligible voters residing there. While the current plan includes five polling stations in Addu City and two in Male’, the party argues that the absence of a box in Hulhumale' undermines the candidate's electoral rights and insists that establishing a local station is essential to alleviate the burden of re-registration for residents.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested the placement of a ballot box in Hulhumale' for the upcoming North Hithadoo constituency by-election, aimed at facilitating ease of voting for constituents residing there.
In a letter sent to the Vice President of the Elections Commission (EC), Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed, on May 5, 2026, the party noted that the official announcement regarding polling station locations for the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election—scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026—failed to include any voting booths for Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2.
However, the MDP stated that approximately 300 residents of the North Hithadhoo constituency had re-registered to vote in Hulhumale' for the Local Council Elections held on April 4, 2026. The party noted that requiring these 300 individuals to undergo the re-registration process once again would cause significant undue hardship.
Consequently, the MDP has requested that a ballot box be stationed in Hulhumale for the by-election, ensuring that the electoral rights of the party's candidate are not compromised.
A total of seven ballot boxes will be placed for the 2026 Hithadhoo North constituency by-election. This includes five ballot boxes in Addu City and two in Malé.
The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that polling stations will be established at Hithadhoo School in Addu City, specifically at the south, center, and north sections of the school hall, as well as in Classrooms 1 and 2. Additionally, the Commission has decided to place two ballot boxes at Dharumavantha School in Male', located at the eastern and western sections of the library in the school's south building.
