President Muizzu’s electoral defeats were not caused by party members, but by a lack of political philosophy: Nasheed
Former President Mohamed Nasheed highlighted that despite constitutional reforms to the Maldivian governance system, significant concerns remain regarding the obstruction of citizens' rights and financial stability. He asserted that to alleviate the hardships caused by current government policies, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) must strengthen its trajectory and seek a change in administration before 2028.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent electoral defeats were not due to a lack of effort by party members, but rather a lack of a clear political philosophy.
Speaking at a rally held in Addu City, Nasheed stated that the governance of the Maldives has undergone a transformation, shifting toward a system where power resides with the people. Highlighting the introduction of a multi-party political system, independent institutions, and the constitutional reforms brought to state administration at the time, Nasheed noted that today, public discourse is dominated by grievances regarding how successive governments have implemented those changes.
Furthermore, Nasheed noted that the current constitutional framework allows the administration to govern according to its own preferences. He stated that this hinders public prosperity and negatively impacts the people's livelihoods. He further expressed that the prevailing concern today is the potential loss of the fundamental rights already granted to the citizens.
Nasheed stated that ways must be found to ensure citizens can live happy, worry-free lives by making the best use of the natural resources available to them. He further emphasized that achieving these goals requires a significant transformation today.
If I were to ask any one of you, not a single person would say they are without worry; there is indeed a great deal of concern.Former President Mohamed Nasheed
Emphasizing the urgent need for a change in the current PNC administration, Nasheed further stated that such a transformation can only be achieved by realigning and strengthening the MDP's trajectory. Consequently, Nasheed highlighted the necessity of moving forward with efforts to rebuild the party and ensure it secures the influence and authority it requires.
Nasheed further stated that establishing an MDP government is a necessary step for the sake of the people. He warned that if the current administration remains unchanged by 2028, the public will suffer the consequences.
Nasheed also highlighted the positive transformations the MDP has brought to the people thus far.
Nasheed also delivered a message to the members of the PNC. He urged them to reflect on their actions if they truly wish for the well-being of the Maldives. He noted that President Muizzu’s electoral defeats were not due to a lack of effort from party members, but rather a lack of a coherent philosophy.
Nasheed, who is contesting for the position of MDP Chairperson, stated that the MDP must become a party that represents all citizens of the Maldives. He further emphasized the need to gain a clearer understanding of the people's aspirations.
