MDP PG endorses Meekail for position of party Chairperson

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group on Monday announced its support for Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for South Galolhu, in his bid for the party’s chairpersonship.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group announced its endorsement of Meekail for the upcoming chairperson election during a special press conference held at the party’s headquarters.
During the meeting, 10 members of the MDP parliamentary group officially announced their full support for Meekail. The meeting was attended by members of the MDP parliamentary group alongside Meekail.
Opening the press conference, Meekail highlighted that members of parliament have historically been one of the most dedicated wings of the MDP, particularly during the party's most challenging periods. He also expressed his gratitude to the members of the parliamentary group, noting that they have been working for approximately the past two months to secure his election.
Speaking at the press conference, PG Leader Ibrahim Nazil stated that he has worked closely with Meekail during both the 19th and 20th Parliaments. Nazil noted that Meekail has consistently played a leading role, both on the Majlis floor and in various party activities.
As the excitement surrounding the upcoming MDP chairperson election intensifies, the candidates contesting for the position alongside Mickail are former President Mohamed Nasheed and Alhan Fahmy.
President Nasheed’s faction has also launched a campaign titled "The Big Change." In a show of solidarity, former MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has officially announced his support for Nasheed, aligning himself with the former president’s movement. The party describes this election as a pivotal moment that will be instrumental in shaping its future direction.
