Missing man from "Udhares" boat found safe on a wooden plank; currently receiving medical treatment!
A Maldivian man reported missing from the vessel "Udhares" has been rescued by a supply boat after being found adrift on a floating pallet. The vessel sank while en route from Malé to Gaafu Alif Vilingili, prompting the MNDF to issue a maritime alert for vessels in the area due to floating debris. The rescued individual is currently receiving medical treatment at the Laamu Gan Regional Hospital.

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the individual reported missing from the vessel "Udhares" has been found safe. The police further stated that the individual is currently receiving medical treatment at the Gan Regional Hospital in Laamu Atoll.
The The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre received a report at approximately 1:21 a.m. on Wednesday night regarding a vessel that ran aground on a reef near Six Senses Laamu resort. The vessel was carrying 12 individuals at the time of the incident, including two Maldivians and 10 foreigners.
MNDF stated at the time that an elderly man had gone missing in the incident and that a search operation was underway to locate him.
In a message sent to the media at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, police confirmed that the individual reported missing in the incident has been located. He was spotted by a passing supply boat while drifting on a wooden pallet. The man was found at approximately 10:15 a.m. on April 9, 2026.
Police further stated that the individual has been transported to the L. Gan Regional Hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
The vessel "Udhares" ran aground while en route from Male' to Gaafu Alif Villingili.
The MNDF has urged vessels navigating the area to exercise extreme caution, as cargo from the sunken "Udhares" boat is currently drifting west of L. Olhuveli.
