Government declares Sunday and Monday as public holidays in connection with the elections
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared this Sunday and Monday as public holidays in connection with the upcoming elections. This decision was made following a request from the Elections Commission, as a significant number of civil servants are involved in various administrative tasks and election-related activities during this period.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared Sunday and Monday as public holidays following the three elections held on Saturday.
In a directive issued by the President's Office on Saturday, the President has declared Sunday, April 5, 2026, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays.
This decision was made following a request from the Elections Commission (EC) to declare Sunday a public holiday. The Commission noted that the local council elections, Women's Development Committee elections, and a public referendum are scheduled for April 4, 2026, requiring the active involvement of a significant number of state institution and civil service employees in various election-related tasks.
Furthermore, the Commission stated that it has requested the government to declare Monday, April 6, a public holiday, as significant election-related work is scheduled to continue following the polls.
