Former President Maumoon joins opposition to merging two elections
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has voiced his opposition to the government's plan to hold a public referendum on synchronizing presidential and parliamentary elections. Expressing his disapproval of the proposal to hold both elections simultaneously, the former president is joined by former Minister Yumna Maumoon and several opposition leaders who have also publicly rejected the initiative.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has also voiced his opposition to holding the parliamentary and presidential elections concurrently.
The government is working towards holding a referendum to synchronize parliamentary and presidential elections on the same day as the upcoming local council elections. However, senior opposition leaders have already voiced their opposition to this proposal.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom revealed on Tuesday night that he does not support the referendum scheduled for April 4. Responding to a question posed in a WhatsApp group, President Maumoon stated that he is not in favor of holding two elections simultaneously.
In addition to President Maumoon, his daughter and former Heritage Minister Yumna Maumoon has also voiced her opposition to the referendum.
