The interim chairperson of the MDP and Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that corruption is the very lifeblood of the current administration.
He made these remarks while addressing a "pickup rally" organized by the MDP.
Ghafoor stated that the narrative surrounding this administration since its inception has been dominated by allegations of theft and corruption. He noted that the public is no longer willing to tolerate such malpractice. He further emphasized that the upcoming local council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections present another crucial opportunity for citizens to take a stand and say "no" to corruption.
"Thieves will always be thieves. No other outcome can be expected. I urge everyone to say no to this government of thieves. Their attempt to combine the two elections is a move to dismantle democracy," he said.
In addition to him, other speakers at the pickup truck rally also voiced sharp criticism against the government. Among them, Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir characterized the upcoming referendum as a prime example of deception and fraud. Mauroof stated that with the government already exerting influence over the Parliament, state institutions, and the courts, granting them control over the local council elections would further degrade the status of the citizens. Mauroof further emphasized that the public must stand up against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing efforts to usurp the power of the people.
