16-year-old dies following injuries sustained in a serious road accident in Male'
A 16-year-old has died while undergoing treatment following an accident near the bridge traffic lights on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, caused by a speeding motorcycle losing control. According to the police, the vehicle was operated by a 19-year-old who did not possess a valid Category E driving license.

A 16-year-old boy has passed away while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a serious accident near the bridge traffic lights on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male' on Tuesday night.
Police reported on Wednesday that an accident occurred near the bridge traffic lights on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male' when a speeding motorcycle lost control and crashed onto the pavement. The incident was reported at approximately 1:39 a.m. on the night of February 24, 2026.
Police reported that a 16-year-old male passenger sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The motorcycle was being operated by a 19-year-old male at the time of the incident. Both individuals are Maldivian nationals.
The child, who was riding on the back, has passed away while undergoing treatment.
Furthermore, police stated that the individual operating the motorcycle at the time of the accident did not possess a valid Category E driving license.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
